Terms of use and licence agreement

  • The site and the free resources are provided for use in qualitative research and teaching. You may use the Open Coder and Explorer, and the CISA Narrative Learning Guide, free of charge. You may not resell them, misrepresent their origin, or remove their notices.
  • Bundled tools (TranscriptReady): TranscriptReady is supplied complimentary as part of the CISA Narrative bundle, not as a standalone free tool. Access to it follows your CISA Narrative licence, and the same restrictions on resale, misrepresentation and notices apply.
  • Licensed tools (CISA Narrative, the Template Enhancer, and the forthcoming Open Coder and Explorer for Focus Groups): your annual subscription grants one named researcher a licence to use the tool for the paid period plus the 14-day grace period. Keys must not be shared beyond the named researcher.
  • Your data and results are yours. We claim no rights over your transcripts, codings, frameworks or reports.
  • Responsibility for research: the tools support analysis; methodological judgement and research-ethics compliance (including participant consent and data-protection duties for your transcripts) remain the researcher's.
  • Availability and changes: the tools run in your browser and keep working offline within the licence terms; we may update them, and hosted versions may change with notice in the tools' own changelogs.
  • Liability: to the extent permitted by law, the tools are provided as-is for research use.
  • Governing law: England and Wales.
